Site Updates

Below are a list of updates done to the Deep Brain Thoughts website:

Version 1.7.0 LOTS OF UPDATES

  • Switced from a 2-column format to a 3-column format with left -and- right sidebars!
  • Also cleaned up and enhanced sidebar content.
  • New updated REVIEWS page!
  • Consolidated even more plug-ins.
  • Added news items.
  • Removed old Favorite Posts carousel on front page and replaced it with a much simpler left-sidebar version.
  • Newest post is now shown by itself at the top of the MY RECENT POSTS section on front page.
  • Added HOME ASSISTANT to Tom’s Favorite Sites.
  • Other minor updates, changes and enhancements.

Version 1.6.1

  • NEW POST “The Strange Case of the Parkie and Mr. Hyde“!
  • Minor changes to the front (Home) page.
  • Switched caching plug-ins.
  • Finally got rid of old Site Origin plug-in, and converted any remaining pages to different page builder.
  • Cleaned up a lot of old plug-ins.
  • Other minor internal changes.
  • Completely re-coded the sidebar widget ‘About the Author‘ – now more simple and no longer uses a proprietary widget (plug-in)\
  • Fixed blank policy pages (Medical, Privacy, Terms of Service)
  • Changed mobile viewing to not include the Favorites Carousel
  • Modified the Legal Disclaimer on footer
  • Recoded (internally) most of the sidebar.
  • Removed old widgets, pages, and such to help increase speed
  • Installed new cache plugin (Breeze)
  • Fixed Search Bar Spelling
  • Many More internal optimizations!
  • Changed About sidebar widget.
  • Organized the FAQ’s to fit and look better, and use a better, more efficient plug-in.
  • Updated Latest PD News.
  • Changed About Tom page.
  • Menu item changes.
  • Internal: Changed caching plug-in removed unused plug-ins; optimized database; etc.
  • Swapped menu locations again (sorry!) – Made more sense to have the main menu at top of screen after all!
  • Added new event
  • Tweaked a few other things.
  • New blog posting, “Holiday Tips for Parkies“.
  • Added additional menu bar at top of screen (desktop) and moved main menu after header.
  • Created new menu for mobile devices.
  • Reversed my last decision and added back the Parkinson’s News page. It’s now automatically updated (kinda), I’ll push new items out every couple of days.
  • Changed the way these ‘New and Updated‘ items are shown.
  • Added new event to Events Page.

  • Added this New and Updated section to tell folks any new or updated items on the website.
  • I have removed (temporarily?) the ‘PD News’ column on the right and the menu news page. Why? I’ve normally been updating these manually each time I’m modifying the website – that got to be almost unmanageable. I therefore tried to automate it using RSS feeds; but the current available WordPress plug-ins just were not doing what I wanted them to. So until I can either 1. Find an acceptable news plug-in; or 2. Write my own, I’ve decided to just remove them for now. Sorry about that, folks… but I think if we are going to show news we should show relevant and new news items rather than ones that are out-of-date or only hand-picked by me.
  • Redesigned a few items on the screens.
  • My first post on DBS somehow got goofed up with the last update to WordPress; so I had to recopy it into another format. Should look better now.
  • Added the first DVT newsletter to the menus.
  • Modified my ‘Welcome‘ above.
  • Added new photos to Gallery (General, plus added two additional menus for 2021 and 2022 Walk-a-Thons)
